چکیده

A multimicrophone speech enhancement algorithm for binaural hearing aids that preserves interaural time delays was proposed recently. The algorithm is based on multichannel Wiener filtering and relies on a voice activity detector (VAD) for estimation of second-order statistics. Here, the effect of a VAD on the speech enhancement of this algorithm was evaluated using an envelopebased VAD, and the performance was compared to that achieved using an ideal error-free VAD. The performance was considered for stationary directional noise and nonstationary diffuse noise interferers at input SNRs from −10 to +5 dB. Intelligibilityweighted SNR improvements of about 20 dB and 6 dB were found for the directional and diffuse noise, respectively. No large degradations (<1 dB) due to the use of envelope-based VAD were found down to an input SNR of 0 dB for the directional noise and −5 dB for the diffuse noise. At lower input SNRs, the improvement decreased gradually to 15 dB for the directional noise and 3 dB for the diffuse noise.

Speech Enhancement Using Gaussian Mixture Models, Explicit Bayesian Estimation and Wiener Filtering

Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) of power spectral densities of speech and noise are used with explicit Bayesian estimations in Wiener filtering of noisy speech. No assumption is made on the nature or stationarity of the noise. No voice activity detection (VAD) or any other means is employed to estimate the input SNR. The GMM mean vectors are used to form sets of over-determined system of equatio...

Speech enhancement with multichannel Wiener filter techniques in multimicrophone binaural hearing aids.

This paper evaluates speech enhancement in binaural multimicrophone hearing aids by noise reduction algorithms based on the multichannel Wiener filter (MWF) and the MWF with partial noise estimate (MWF-N). Both algorithms are specifically developed to combine noise reduction with the preservation of binaural cues. Objective and perceptual evaluations were performed with different speech-in-mult...

Enhancement of binaural speech using codebook constrained iterative binaural wiener filter

A clean speech VQ codebook has been shown to be effective in providing intraframe constraints and hence better convergence of the iterative Wiener filtering scheme for single channel speech enhancement. Here we present an extension of the single channel CCIWF scheme to binaural speech input by incorporating a speech distortion weighted multi-channel Wiener filter. The new algorithm shows consid...

Effective visually-derived Wiener filtering for audio-visual speech processing

This work presents a novel approach to speech enhancement by exploiting the bimodality of speech and the correlation that exists between audio and visual speech features. For speech enhancement, a visually-derived Wiener filter is developed. This obtains clean speech statistics from visual features by modelling their joint density and making a maximum a posteriori estimate of clean audio from v...
